At The Colonic Clinic here in Leicestershire we use Epsom Salts in our Detox Programme. These salts are natural Magnesium Sulphate and magnesium is alkalising, cleansing, helps release stress and encourages muscle relaxation. A bath in Epsom Salts can really help the detoxification process as the high density of salt in these hyperthermic salts draws out toxins through the skin so it is beneficial to perspire. When used during a bath they are antispasmodic and great for muscle and joint pain. Epsom salts can be bought at a local chemist or bought on Amazon for around £8.
The baths should be taken 3 times per week for the first week and then once per week. Put approximately a cupful of salts to each 60lb of body weight into the bath that is a temperature comfortable for you. Gradually increase the temperature of the water over the next 10 minutes until it is comfortably hot. Stay immersed up to the neckline if possible and soak for a further 10-15 minutes. If at any time you feel you are too warm then do get out or reduce the water temperature.
Once out of the bath, pat dry only, leaving a residue of salt to do the work overnight. Wrap up warmly and go straight to bed, cover up well so that the body stays warm enough to perspire. The following morning rinse the body with tepid water to remove toxins left on the skin. The bath could also be done during the day if you prefer but leave 2 or 3 hours before rinsing.
CAUTION: If you suffer from high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems you should start on a lower temperature
